PEMBUATAN LONCENG BAHAN Al-Cu DENGAN VARIASI SISTEM SALURAN PADA METODE CERAMIC CASTING
Bells are usually made of tin-copper alloys due to their acoustic properties.
Aluminum alloys with an additional 4.8% copper have shown smilar characteristic
as tin-copper. Aluminum can be used as a material for making bells. Ceramic
casting molds use clays. One of the areas that has considerable natural clay
potential is in Gema Village, Lipat Kain Subdistrict, Kampar Regency, Riau
Province. This study aims to determine the best type of gatting system based on
minimum defects, dimensional accuracy and hardness of bell products, by varying
the gatting system design, namely gatting system, direct gatting system with two
inlets, direct gatting system with enhancer. Making molds using clay and forming
them with a borer pattern, after the mold is formed, let it dry for ± 7 days. The
sintering temperature used is 359°C for 40 minutes, which is obtained based on the
results of the sample determination of sintering temperature and time. Liquid metal
is poured at 780 ° C into the mold. The result is that the direct gatting system with
risers is the most optimal gatting system for casting bells. This type of gatting
system has the least defects getting 3 types of defects: Shrinkage defects, (Flash or
Burr) metal seeping out of the mold, and pinhole defects (pinholes), minimum size
deviation with 1 deviation point located at point t' (mm), and maximum hardness
level of 55.761 VHN.
