PENGARUH JENIS SISTEM SALURAN LOST FOAM CASTING TERHADAP KUALITAS COR PADUAN ALUMINIUM KALENG MINUMAN BEKAS UNTUK PEMBUATAN KALIGRAFI
Recycling beverage cans for the manufacture of calligraphy products is an
alternative to reduce waste and increase economic value in metal casting industry.
The quality of lost foam casting product is influenced by pouring temperature,
gating system, sand size, and styrofoam density. This research aims to investigate
the effect of lost foam casting gating systems on the surface roughness and porosity
of cast beverage cans products. There were three selected type of gating systems
used: single gating system with a riser, two separated gating systems with a riser,
and direct gating system with a riser. Casting temperature was set at 700°C. The
effects of the gating system were determined through surface roughness and
porosity tests. The results show that the gating system affects the flow rate of the
melt in filling the mold cavity. Specifically, the direct gating system with a riser has
the highest surface roughness and porosity values of 7,526 μm and 2,792%,
respectively, while the two separate gating system with a riser has the lowest
surface roughness and porosity values of 4,495 μm and 0,627%. The best gating
system for the manufacture of calligraphy products is two separate gating system
with a riser. These results can be used as a reference for selecting the gating design
in the manufacture of lost foam casting products.
