Etnografi Virtual Identitas Roleplayer Tokoh Alternate Universe Di Media Sosial X
Roleplayer is linguistically defined as playing a role. Roleplayer is a game that is played virtually through social media by imitating the character of the character being played, both in terms of attitude, speech, and visuals. Roleplayers will play their roles without revealing their true identities. In addition to being entertainment, roleplay activities also provide a virtual picture of culture on social media. The existence of similar values and the existence of false identities played by individuals virtually and recognized by their communities, which ultimately leads to the emergence of virtual identities from roleplay activities. This study aims to analyze the virtual ethnography of the roleplayer identity of alternate universe characters on social media X.
This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data analysis techniques using cyber media analysis consisting of 4 (four) levels, namely, media space level, media document level, media object level, and experience level with two units of analysis in the form of writing and visuals on the x roleplayer social media account to be studied.
The results of this research are based on an analysis of cyber media by Nasrullah, namely, the first level of media space where creating an account is the same as a personal account but is differentiated by the identity used and the fictional character that indicates a roleplay account. Second is the level of media documents, roleplayer accounts upload posts in the form of visual face claims the characters he plays, there are special nicknames between them which are in line with the characters in the AU who are played as a form of cultural artifact. The three media objects, interaction in the form of birthday greetings in line with the birthday of the AU character being played, interaction on the radio channel in line with the profession of the character in AU, interaction in the form of comments on posts related to identity recognition by their followers. The four levels of media experience, every media posted, whether in the form of writing or visuals, is constructed on the basis of creating a virtual identity and also as a form of promotion of the AU played by the character as well as the sale of the AU which has been recorded on the roleplay account.
