Konsep Diri Barista (Studi Fenomenologi Barista Starbucks Di Pekanbaru)
This research is motivated by the author's interest in the phenomenon of the rise of coffee shops in Pekanbaru City along with the demand for barista labor is getting higher. One of them is Starbucks, known as an international standard coffee shop in Indonesia, so working there is an achievement in itself. The process of being able to work at Starbucks is not easy; prospective employees must meet various strict requirements and competencies compared to other coffee shops and are not found in other coffee shops. Therefore, the author is interested in examining how the self-concept of a barista at Starbucks Pekanbaru City.\
This research uses a qualitative research method using a phenomenological approach and uses Alfred Schutz's phenomenological theory and George Mead's symbolic interaction theory. This research consists of 6 informants who work as baristas at Starbucks Pekanbaru City who were selected by purposive technique. Data and information were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, triangulation, and conclusion drawing. To conduct data validity, the author uses extended observation techniques, increases persistence, and reproduces reference material.
Based on the results of the study, it was found that the self-concept of baristas working at Starbucks in Pekanbaru City tends to be positive. This can be seen from the attitude of all informants who accept themselves well in various aspects. First, physical, how the barista looks when doing daily activities. Second, social, how baristas interact with people around them. Third psychic, how the baristas assess themselves. These baristas are not only satisfied with their personal appearance and abilities, but also consider their work as something very meaningful. They view their work at Starbucks as a positive contribution, which has a significant impact on their social, economic and psychological aspects. The work was perceived as improving their quality of life and providing a sense of accomplishment and stability. The aim of this research is to analyze the self-concept of baristas working at Starbucks in Pekanbaru, focusing on physical, social, and psychological aspects, as well as to evaluate the impact of their work on their quality of life, achievement, and psychological stability.
