This research is motivated by the availability of BIPA teaching materials which are still limited. So far, BIPA teaching materials published by the Ministry of Education and Culture have not been found that specifically raise Riau Malay culture. Meanwhile, BIPA learners in Riau are increasing. It is only right that BIPA learners in Riau are brought closer to Riau culture. So that BIPA learning feels closer and more real in their lives. Without having to ignore other cultures in Indonesia. In addition, BIPA learners from South Patani, Thailand are very interested in Riau Malay culture. They also do not understand Indonesian well for daily communication purposes in Indonesia. Things they need to understand are greeting, how to introduce themselves, explaining who they are, recognizing numbers in Indonesian, describing something, using pronouns, demonstratives, and writing short sentences. Presenting teaching materials that are close to technology and make it easier for learners to understand BIPA material and be more independent is also the reason this research was conducted. Based on this, the researcher considers it necessary to develop BIPA 1 auditory-visual teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture using the flipbook application.
This research is a research and development (R&D) with the formulation of research problems, namely, (1) How is the design of auditory-visual teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture in terms of writing skills for beginner level BIPA?, (2) How is the quality of auditory-visual teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture in terms of writing skills for beginner level BIPA?, and (3) How is the user response to the implementation of auditory-visual teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture in terms of writing skills for beginner level BIPA?. This study was conducted with the aim of explaining and producing the design of auditory-visual teaching materials, explaining the quality of teaching materials, and explaining user responses to auditory-visual teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture in terms of writing skills for beginner-level BIPA.
The R&D research in this study used the ADDIE model. The stages of research into the development of auditory-visual teaching materials are analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This study used saturated samples by making all populations as samples. The sample in this study was all foreign students from the 2023 intake from South Patani, Thailand and continuing their education in Pekanbaru, totaling 14 people. The research data was obtained from distributing questionnaires, tests, and interviews. In this study, the researcher conducted tests on BIPA1 learners. The pretest and posttest tests are a series of tests carried out to determine the success of the teaching materials developed. Whether or not they have an effect after the teaching materials are implemented in learning.
The BIPA auditory-visual teaching materials in this study were designed to include elements of Riau Malay culture. The teaching materials are arranged with

a clear structure, including the beginning, content, and conclusion, and are equipped with Riau Malay cultural content at the end of each material unit. The addition of elements of Riau Malay culture in the development of teaching materials is carried out to increase the aesthetic value and increase learners' insight into Indonesian culture, especially Riau Malay culture. Based on validation from material, language, media, and culture experts, it is stated that the BIPA auditory- viewing teaching materials developed are very feasible to use. The implementation of these auditory-viewing teaching materials was carried out by testing them on international students from Thailand. The results of the pretest and posttest tests showed that there was a significant increase in writing skills after using the auditory-viewing teaching materials developed.
The assessment from the validator, the response from the learners and the learners as users of the BIPA teaching materials developed showed that the auditory-viewing teaching materials containing Riau Malay culture in terms of writing skills for beginner-level BIPA were very good. Based on the values from the validator and user responses, it indicates that the auditory-viewing teaching materials developed are very feasible to use and effective for beginner-level BIPA learning. Overall, the BIPA auditory-visual teaching materials developed can meet the needs of learners and are very good for improving the writing skills of beginner- level BIPA learners.
