Strategi Komunikasi Dinas Pariwisata Provinsi Riau Dalammempromosikan Festival Subayang
The Subayang Festival is one of the festivals in Riau Province, located in the Kampar Kiri area. This festival represent the beauty and uniqueness of a region rich in culture and natural potential. Despite its significant potential for development to enhance visitor appeal, the festival faces challenges, particularly the lack of adequate promotion, this issue hampers the increase in tourist numbers and limits the festival’s potetial contribution to the local economy.
The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy of the Riau Provincial Tourism Office in promoting the Subayang Festival. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with relevant informants, direct observation in the field, and documentation related to festival activities. Informants were selected purposively to ensure they had direct involvement and in-depth knowledge of the research object. Data analysis was carried out inductively with data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions to obtain comprehensive results.
The results of this study indicate that the communication strategy implemented by the Riau Provincial Tourism Office in promoting the Subayang Festival involves an in-depth analysis of information, public views, and facilities and infrastructure related to the festival. This step helps formulate a strategy that includes selecting communicators, compiling messages, determining target audiences, and the media used to convey messages. The implementation of this strategy involves collaboration between the local government, local communities, and environmentalist communities in the protected forest area of the Rimbang Baling wildlife sanctuary. This festival features the traditional procession "Semah Rantau" and combines elements of art, local culture, and MSME products to increase tourist appeal. However, this study found several inhibiting factors, such as limited access to the location and low community participation. On the other hand, there are supporting factors in the form of openness, effective communication channels, and support from stakeholders.
