This study examines participatory communication between the village government and the Akit ethnic community in the management of mangrove forests in Bantan District, Bengkalis Regency. The background of this study highlights the importance of dialogue, empowerment of voice, and emancipatory education in encouraging community participation in the management of natural resources. Based on previous studies, active community participation in environmental management has proven to be essential for achieving sustainable conservation goals.
The objective of this study is to analyze how dialogue, voice delivery, emancipatory education, and reflective action are implemented by the Akit community in the management of mangrove forests. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, where data was collected through observation and in-depth interviews to gain a deep understanding of the communication dynamics between the community and the village government in a specific local context. The results indicate that the dialogue process between the community and the government has been running well, despite communication barriers due to a gap with the village government. The indigenous community has made efforts to create a comfortable discussion environment and uses media to disseminate information and community activities. Additionally, the use of emancipatory education methods has played a key role in empowering the Akit community in the management of mangrove forests.
