Kajian Model Kinetika Acid Degumming Crude Palm Oil Menggunakan NADES (Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent) dari Kolin Klorida dan Gliserol
Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is raw oil obtained through the extraction of palm fruit pulp, typically requiring several refining processes to remove impurities such as gums. Gums contain a high amount of phosphatides that can be eliminated through a degumming process. The removal of non-hydratable phosphatides, which cannot be removed by adding water, is usually performed with the addition of acids, a process known as acid degumming. However, the use of commercial acids (such as phosphoric acid or citric acid) raises environmental concerns and may cause oil degradation during the acid degumming process. This presents a challenge to develop eco-friendly innovations that also maintain the quality of the process. The use of NADES offers a promising solution to this issue. NADES is formed from a mixture of a Hydrogen Bonding Acceptor (HBA), such as choline chloride, and a Hydrogen Bonding Donor (HBD), such as glycerol, in a molar ratio of 1:2. This NADES mixture was applied in the acid degumming process.
This study aims to analyze the kinetic model of the acid degumming reaction using NADES (choline chloride and glycerol) based on temperature variability (40°C, 50°C, and 60°C) and NADES concentration (0.2%, 0.5%, and 1%). The objectives include determining the effects of NADES application on temperature and concentration, obtaining the reaction rate equation, and calculating the mean error rate of the NADES application based on a validated reaction order.
The results show that a 1% concentration of NADES and a temperature of 50°C at 60 minutes of reaction time provided optimum removal, achieving a phosphatide removal rate of 83.23%. FTIR analysis confirmed that no structural changes occurred in the functional groups during the acid degumming process. Additionally, the study found that the acid degumming reaction follows a pseudo-second-order reaction with an R2 value closest to one (R2=0.9609) a reaction rate equation of -r_A=-〖dC〗_[GM] /dt=[417 exp((-19220)/RT) 〖C_GM〗^2 ] and a mean error percentage of 10.42%.
