Hiperrealitas Avatar Virtual Youtuber Kobo Kanaeru Dalam Perspektif Jean Baudrillad
The ease of accessing information brings serious repercussions in the form of human degradation and changes in social interactions that increasingly occur through virtual communication. The growth of digital media, such as YouTube, which facilitates the dissemination of audio-visual information, opens up various new forms of expression and interaction, exemplified by the phenomenal rise of Virtual YouTubers (VTubers) who use digital avatars to conceal their true identities and create unique personas. VTubers have become entertainment figures that blur the lines between physical reality and digital simulation, driven by global popularity through motion capture technology and online platforms, along with significant revenue from Super Chats on various other social platforms. This research aims to understand the forms of reality, representation, and ideology embodied by the avatar Kobo Kanaeru.
This study employs a qualitative research method with descriptive analysis presentation. Videos selected as the unit of analysis are chosen using purposive sampling based on criteria such as accessibility, no restrictions on viewer numbers, collaboration with other VTubers, and having the highest view counts within the past one to two years. Data collection techniques include observation, documentation, and literature study, while data analysis employs text analysis according to John Fiske.
The research findings show the hyperreality form of the VTuber from Kobo Kanaeru's avatar. Conceptually, signs reflect, distort, or obscure real reality. Kobo Kanaeru manifest the concepts of constructed reality, representation, and ideology as outlined by John Fiske. Kobo Kanaeru create a new reality where the boundary between the real and the virtual becomes blurred, demonstrating how media and digital products can engineer reality. Through visual and narrative elements, Kobo Kanaeru represent how technology can manipulate our perception of reality, making her appear real and generating similar to new cultures among their fans. Through streaming interactions and merchandise sales, Kobo Kanaeru promote the ideologies of consumerism and digital capitalism that seem tangible. Thus, Kobo Kanaeru not only entertain but also shape social and cultural values, blurring the lines between the real and the virtual, and introducing new forms of cultural interaction and social relationships.
