Rancangan Pabrik Asam Akrilat Dari Propilena Teknologi Lurgi/Nippon Kayaku Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Fixed Bed Multitube (R-101)
Acrylic acid is an important chemical because it is an intermediate of many chemical compounds due to its very wide applications such as household cleaners, disinfectants and other products. Acrylic acid is an organic compound that has a sharp odor and is liquid at room temperature, colorless, flammable and corrosive. An acrylic acid factory from propylene lurgi/nippon kayaku technology with a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year is planned to be established in the Kariangau Industrial Estate, West Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province.
The design of an acrylic acid plant from propylene uses Lurgi/Nippon Kayaku technology. Lurgi/Nippon Kayaku is a leading technology in producing ester-grade acrylic acid (EAA). The feed flow is fed into two multitube fixed bed reactors in series, R-101 and R-102. First of all, propylene is oxidized to acrolein in R-101 at a temperature of 330ºC and a pressure of 5 bar. Furthermore, acrolein is oxidized to acrylic acid in R-102 at a temperature of 300ºC and a pressure of 5 bar. In R-101 and R-102, an exothermic reaction occurs, so a coolant in the form of cooling water is needed to maintain the reaction temperature at a safe limit. The design of the acrylic acid production process is supported by the availability of utilities which include the provision of water, electricity and energy as well as waste treatment. The water needs in the factory come from the wine river while the electricity needs of the factory are met by turbines driven by steam. The liquid waste of this plant is treated anaerobicly before being discharged into the river which consists of equalization, neutralization, aeration and sedimentation processes. Meanwhile, waste gas, which is the rest of the oxidation process that does not react, will later be treated by combustion through flare gas. The plant is designed by implementing a heat exchanger network (HEN). The equipment in the factory is equipped with safety instruments and process control instruments to ensure the performance and stability of the process and suppress external disturbances.
The acrylic acid plant from propylene has a working time of 300 days per year and 24 hours per day. The plant operates for 47 weeks per year and 5 weeks per year is used for shut downs, maintenances and repairs. The form of the company is a Limited Liability Company (PT) using a strategic business unit organization system with a total of 164 employees. Based on the results of economic analysis, the acrylic acid plant for lurgi/nippon technology is feasible to be built with a Payback Period (PBP) of 5 years and 4 months, Return of Investment 28.81%, Internal Rate of Return 25.35%, Break Event Point 61% and Net Present Value of Rp4,223,668,928,363.86.
