Komunikasi Interpersonal Profesional Pemberi Asuhan (Ppa) Pada Keluarga Orang Dengan Gangguan Jiwa (Odgj) Dalam Upaya Penyembuhan Pasien Di Rumah Sakit Jiwa Tampan Riau
Interpersonal communication is an important foundation in human relationships, especially in the handling of People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) who require family support and Professional Care Providers (PPA) for the recovery process. ODGJ often face social stigma that reduces family support and their participation in the healing process, so that some patients are even abandoned by their families and become the responsibility of the hospital. At the Tampan Riau Mental Hospital, there are still inventory patients who lose family support, which shows the importance of effective interpersonal communication between PPA and the patient's family in the patient's healing efforts. The purpose of this study was to see effective interpersonal communication in patient healing efforts that include openness, empathy, support, positive attitudes, and equality that can strengthen the relationship between PPA and the patient's family which has an impact on the patient's healing efforts. This study uses social penetration theory to understand how the relationship between PPA and the patient's family can develop gradually from initial interactions to the depth of the relationship that supports healing.
This study uses a descriptive qualitative method based on Social Penetration Theory. The subjects of the study are Professional Caregivers (PPA) and Families of People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) at RSJ Tampan Riau, comprising nine (9) informants selected through purposive sampling. Research data was gathered through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity techniques used are prolonged engagement and source triangulation.
Based on the results of the research on PPA communication with the families of ODGJ patients in the healing process at RSJ Tampan Riau, all five aspects have been implemented. Openness is practiced by PPA towards patient families in sharing information related to the patient's condition, which indirectly fosters closeness between them. Empathy is shown both verbally and non-verbally, with PPA placing themselves in the family’s position. The support provided includes education regarding the patient's condition and ease of access to medications that aid patient recovery. A positive attitude is demonstrated by spending additional time with the patient’s family, which indirectly strengthens the bond between PPA and the family.
