Fenomena Komunikasi Lanjut Usia Yang Tinggal Di Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Husnul Khotimah Pekanbaru
The research is based on Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Husnul Khotimah Pekanbaru, a nursing home with the concept of independent elderly development. Instead of nursing homes filled with elderly people who come from underprivileged families, they are also filled with elderly people who come from established families. Living in a nursing home will certainly experience many challenges and events and try to adapt and accept the situation as an elderly living in a nursing home. So, this research aims to find out the communication phenomenon of the elderly living in the Husnul Khotimah Tresna Werdha Social Home Pekanbaru.
This research uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach and uses Alfred Schutz's phenomenological theory and George Mead's symbolic interaction theory. The research consisted of 6 informants who were selected by purposive technique. Data and information were collected through in- depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, source triangulation, and conclusion drawing. To perform data validity, the author uses extended observation techniques, increases persistence, and reproduces reference material.
The results showed that the pleasant communication experience of the elderly living in Tresna Werdha Husnul Khotimah Social Home Pekanbaru consisted of establishing good relationships with the nursing home, such as office management, pramulans, and other staff, establishing good relationships with fellow nursing home residents, and easily expressing feelings to others. Unpleasant communication experiences consisted of getting discrimination from fellow residents, not being able to establish good relationships with the residents, such as office management, nursing staff, and other staff, and having difficulty expressing feelings to others. The self-concept of the elderly living in Husnul Khotimah Tresna Werdha Social Home is divided into two, namely positive and negative self-concepts. Positive self-concept consists of high self-confidence, paying attention to personal appearance, paying attention to personal health, being active in social care activities, and being independent in old age. Negative self-concept consists of feeling useless and paying less attention to one's health. Self-meaning for the elderly living in Husnul Khotimah Tresna Werdha Social Home Pekanbaru consists of self-acceptance of the conditions of the elderly living in nursing homes and interpreting positive contributions as important.
