Karakteristik Kekuatan Tarik Dan Impak Komposit Matrik Polimer Serat Kulit Durian (Durio Zibethinus Murray) Dengan Variasi Perlakuan Serat
Durian fruit is a fruit that is quite popular among Indonesian people. Durian fruit produces a lot of waste that has no economic value and can damage the environment. Utilizing durian rind fiber as a natural fiber in making composites is one way to reduce this waste. To produce quality durian rind fiber, you can use the alkalization method or fiber treatment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of variations in fiber treatment on durian rind composite fibers on the bond between fibers and the matrix through the results of cellulose, tensile and impact test. Durian rind fiber is obtained after going through an extraction process by soaking for 15 days in aquadesh. This study used 4 variations of alkalization treatment, namely: (1) fiber without treatment, (2) 5% NaOH treatment, (3) 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 treatment and (4) 5% KOH treatment. Specimen preparation using the hand lay up method with a volume fraction of 50:50. Specimens in ASTM D3039 tensile test and ASTM D6110 impact test. The highest cellulose content test results were in fibers treated with 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 at 59.48% and the lowest in fibers without treatment at 50.62%. The highest tensile test results for the composite treated with 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 were 8.58 MPa and the lowest for the composite without treatment were 6.02 MPa. The highest impact test results for composites without treatment were 2.8 kJ/m2 and the lowest for 5% KOH treatment was 1.6 kJ/m2. The results of the study showed that variations in fiber treatment could increase cellulose and tensile strength so that the bond between fiber and matrix increased, but fiber treatment reduced the impact toughness.
