Pemanfaatan Limbah Plastik Jenis High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Sebagai Bahan Bakar Alternatif Dengan Metode Pirolisis
Plastic has properties that are non-biodegradable or cannot be broken down by decomposing organisms in nature, so plastic requires a very long process to decompose by itself. One method of processing plastic waste is pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is a degradation process of thermal biomass by heat in the absence of oxygen. This research was carried out with the aim of knowing the results of plastic pyrolysis and the contents contained in the results. By utilizing plastic waste, especially HDPE as fuel, it is hoped that it can help overcome the problem of plastic waste and meet energy needs. This experiment was carried out with variations in time and temperature, namely at temperatures of 350°C, 400°C, and 450°C and at 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes with a test standard of 500 grams. The best test results were obtained in the 450 °C experiment with a holding time of 90 minutes with a total oil yield of 160 grams, the best heating value was 10639.1 cal/gr, and the carbon content from the GC-MS test results was 84.11%. Apart from that, the pyrolysis oil is also tested for density and viscosity. From all these tests it can be concluded that the oil resulting from HDPE pyrolysis can be further developed as an alternative fuel.
