Self Disclosure Mahasiswi Penyintas Kekerasan Seksual Di Universitas Riau
Sexual violence most frequently occurs in higher education institutions. The stigma imposed by others often causes victims to experience significant emotional distress. Fear of being ostracized by society leads women who are victims of sexual violence to tend to hide the traumatic experiences they face. This study aims to analyze various forms of self-disclosure, the reasons behind such disclosure, and the impacts felt by female survivors of sexual violence at Universitas Riau.
This research employs a qualitative research method. The subjects of the study consist of female students from Universitas Riau who have experienced sexual violence and have bravely disclosed their experiences, selected using the Snowball technique. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and verification and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, this study used source triangulation techniques.
The results of this research indicate that there are five purposes of self- disclosure among female survivors of sexual violence at Universitas Riau, namely Expression, Social Clarification, Social Validation, Social Control, and Relationship Development. In this context, the impacts experienced after self- disclosure are divided into two categories: positive and negative impacts. The positive impacts include self-understanding, the ability to cope with difficulties, and the reduction of emotional burdens. Meanwhile, the negative impacts that arise include social rejection and personal difficulties.
