Practical activities are an inseparable part of science learning activities. Science
learning through practical activities in the Laboratory is an activity that provides direct
experience to students. The process of absorbing learning materials can be received
directly through the use of media in experimental activities, one of which is by utilizing
media, namely the Optical KIT. The use of Optical KIT in science learning will invite
students to learn optics as a whole, not just memorizing natural science concepts, but
also learning what, why, and how these concepts are discovered through experimental
activities in the laboratory. By using the optical KIT, it is hoped that students will
receive learning materials optimally, so that their learning motivation arises, and it is
hoped that their learning achievements will increase. However, in reality, the optical
KIT is still not widely used during learning. This causes the unused optical KIT to be
damaged so that it cannot be used again.
The purpose of this study was to determine and describe the learning outcomes
of grade VIII junior high school students and to determine the differences in the use of
KIT Optics on light and optical instrument materials. The benefits for students are that
they can improve cognitive learning outcomes, while the benefits for teachers are that
they can be used as an alternative to more contextual physics learning.
This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Mandau starting in June 2024.
The type of research used is Quasi-Experimental Design with the research design being
Posttest-Only Control Design. The population of the study was all students of class
VIII of SMP Negeri 5 Mandau. Sampling was based on the normality and homogeneity
test of the results of the previous material test. The determination of the class to be used
as a sample was determined by drawing lots in homogeneous classes. The data
collection instrument used was a written cognitive learning outcome test. The data was
analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis techniques. The results of
the study showed that there were differences in the learning outcomes of students
whose learning used the optical KIT and those who did not use it.

The learning outcomes of the class using the Optical KIT through the material
of light and optical devices are in the Good category with a percentage of 77%, while
for the class using conventional learning it is in the Less Good category with a
percentage of 49%. The results of the hypothesis test using Mann Whitney obtained a
result of 0.001 which means it is smaller than 0.05. So inferentially there is a significant
difference between the experimental group and the control group.
Based on the results of the study, the learning outcomes of the experimental
class were higher than the control class, so learning using the optical KIT can be used
as an alternative for teachers in learning physics science. Similar research can also be
conducted for different materials and school levels, thus learning using the optical KIT
can improve students' cognitive learning outcomes because there is a significant
difference between the experimental class and the control class.
