Kajian Potensi Minyak Goreng Bekas Sebagai Material Pola Pada Investment Casting
ABSTRACT
Used cooking oil is oil that has been used in the frying process. Consumption of used cooking oil has a negative impact on human health, in addition to improper disposal of used cooking oil resulting in environmental pollution. One way to overcome this waste is by processing it into wax material for investment casting patterns by adding chemicals in the form of stearin. This study aims to determine the optimal composition of wax patterns from used cooking oil as an alternative to investment casting mold patterns with variations in stearin composition. Used cooking oil was mixed with stearin with a composition of 25 ml cooking oil and 21.15; 23.07; 25 ml stearin. The quality test wax pattern is made in the form of a cylinder, then the composition that has the minimum oil content and no cracks is selected, this composition is used for shrinkage testing with silicone rubber molds. The results showed that the optimal wax pattern composition is 25 ml of used cooking oil and 25 ml of stearin, this composition has the lowest percentage of oil content of 4.1% and no cracks on the surface of the wax pattern, the highest hardness value is 13.3 HA, with a linear shrinkage percentage of outlet diameter 1.63%, inlet diameter -0.1%, width1 1.75%, width2 0.66%, radius1 0.66%, radius2 0.99%, and volumetric shrinkage 5.22%. This composition can be used by the metal casting industry for pattern making in investment casting.
