Komunikasi Terapeutik Perawat Dalam Memberikan Motivasi Kesembuhan Kepada Pasien Penyakit Stroke Iskemik Di Rumah Sakit Otak Dr. Drs. M. Hatta Bukittinggi
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 15 million people worldwide experience a stroke every year. This is due to the relatively high incidence of stroke cases in the community. In Bukittinggi, based on data obtained from the medical records of Dr. Drs. M. Hatta Brain Hospital, the number of ischemic stroke patients is significantly higher than hemorrhagic stroke patients. This highlights the need for specific actions or behaviors to reduce the mortality rate of stroke patients and achieve recovery for them. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of therapeutic communication performed by nurses in motivating the recovery of ischemic stroke patients at Dr. Drs. M. Hatta Brain Hospital, Bukittinggi.
This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The informants in this study consisted of seven individuals, including three nurses and four ischemic stroke patients who had been treated at Dr. Drs. M. Hatta Brain Hospital. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted in four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation of sources were used as techniques to ensure data validity.
The results of this study indicate that therapeutic communication is carried out through three stages: orientation, working, and termination. In the orientation stage, nurses establish an initial relationship with patients through introductions and creating a comfortable environment. The working stage is characterized by clear communication of information, providing motivation, and consistent emotional support. In the termination stage, nurses ensure that patients have a good understanding of the recovery steps that need to be continued. Communication in each stage involves a combination of verbal communication, such as language use, speaking pace, and tone of voice, as well as nonverbal communication, such as facial expressions and touch.
