Serikat Tolong Menolong is a group formed by the Batak community in the Pagar Jati area of North Sumatra to maintain the solidarity they possess. This association cannot be separated from the communication processes carried out by each of its members, especially interpersonal communication. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyze five humanistic perspectives: openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality that exist within Serikat Tolong Menolong in maintaining the solidarity of the Batak community in Pagar Jati, North Sumatra.

This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques used in this research include interviews, observations, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of 5 individuals selected based on purposive sampling criteria, where the informants are determined through specific characteristics that support the research. The data analysis technique involves data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Additionally, the data verification technique used is triangulation.

The results of this study indicate that the interpersonal communication present in Serikat Tolong Menolong in Pagar Jati, North Sumatra, includes openness. In practice, the openness is reflected in building closeness and fostering interaction. Meanwhile, empathy is expressed through activities such as traditional death ceremonies, visiting members' homes, and providing assistance to members in distress. Furthermore, support is given through fundraising efforts. Positive attitudes are reflected in forms of appreciation, praise, and creating a pleasant communication environment. Lastly, the aspect of equality is manifested in this association through mutual respect.
