Studi Karakteristik Sampah Dan Alternatif Teknologi Dalam Pengolahan Sampah Berkelanjutan Di Kampus Binawidya Universitas Riau
ABSTRACT
Waste arising can be sourced from residential and non-residential areas. One of the non-residential areas that has the potential to generate high levels of waste is the Education (University) area. Waste management at Riau University is currently carried out using the collect, transport and dispose method. Until now, there has been no further waste processing implemented at Riau University. This study aims to determine the characteristics of waste and analyse the processing potential that can be applied in the Binawidya Campus of Riau University based on the results of the waste characteristics analysis test. Waste characteristics were analysed by proximate analysis test consisting of moisture content, volatile content, ash content and fixed carbon content. While the ultimate analysis consists of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur and energy content testing consists of calorific value testing. The average results of proximate analysis showed that the moisture content of waste generated at Riau University was 16.16%, volatile content was 36.38%, ash content was 34.77%, fixed carbon content was 12.69%. The average results of the ultimate analysis test showed a carbon content of 47.47%, nitrogen 0.86%, phosphorus 0.44% and sulfur 0.35%, while the average calorific value was 3,889.30 Kcal/kg. Based on the physical, chemical, and energy content characteristics of waste at Binawidya Campus of Riau University, it can be concluded that the waste has the potential to be processed further. Processing that can be done such as composting, making Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) briquettes and utilising Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae to break down waste.
