Diplomasi Kesehatan Tiongkok Dalam Penanggulangan Pandemi Covid-19 Di Ethiopia Pada Tahun 2020-2023
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted global health dynamics and international relations, particularly in developing countries such as Ethiopia. China, as an emerging global power, has actively engaged in health diplomacy in Ethiopia during the pandemic, which is closely related to the broader strategic interests of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the region. This research examines China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2023 and explores its connection to the BRI program in Ethiopia.
The study employs a qualitative research methodology with document analysis as the primary data collection technique, adopting the global health diplomacy framework by Ilona Kickbusch. The research analyzes various documents, including government reports, international organization publications, academic journals, news articles, and policy documents related to China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia. The analysis focuses on examining China's health assistance programs, vaccine diplomacy, medical aid, and health infrastructure development in Ethiopia during the specified period.
The research findings reveal that China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia during the COVID-19 pandemic was strategically aligned with BRI objectives. China provided substantial medical assistance, including vaccine donations, medical equipment supplies, and the construction of health facilities. This health diplomacy not only strengthened bilateral relations but also enhanced China's presence in Ethiopia's health sector, supporting broader BRI goals in East Africa. The study demonstrates how health diplomacy has become a crucial tool in China's foreign policy strategy, particularly in regions critical to BRI's success.
