Fishing hooks have different shapes and sizes so that fish will be hooked on the hook. Different hook constructions affect the response of fish that want to prey on the bait attached to the hook. This study aims to determine the effect of different hook sizes (numbers 6, 7, 13, 14, and 15) as well as branched and unbranched handline constructions on the catch of handline fishing gear to determine the number, type and size of fish caught on handline fishing gear operated in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra. The method used in this study is the experimental fishing method. The results of the analysis of variance test on the weight of the catch showed that there was an effect of the construction of the hook. The size of the hook and the interaction of construction and size of the hook had no significant effect on the weight of the catch. The results of the analysis of variance test on the number of catches showed that there was an effect of the construction and size of the hook. The interaction of construction and size of the hook had no significant effect on the number of catches.
