This research aims to find out 1) to find out how high the influence of selfcompassion
is in class XII students at SMAN 1 Seberida, Indragiri Hulu Regency,
2) to find out how high the emotional intelligence is in class
This type of research is ex post facto with a quantitative approach. The
population in this study was 271 class XII students at SMAN 1 Seberida. The
sampling technique uses Purposive Random Sampling. This sampling method is
because data collection was carried out randomly and the selection was deliberate,
namely class XII students majoring in Science or Social Sciences, using the Slovin
formula, so the sample was 74 students.
The data collection methods for this research are 1) observation, 2)
questionnaires, and 3) documentation. This research instrument consists of two
questionnaires, namely: self-compassion and emotional intelligence questionnaires.
The writing instrument goes through several stages, namely: 1) reviewing all
theories related to the variables to be studied, 2) compiling indicators for each
variable, 3) compiling a grid, 4) compiling statement items and determining a
measurement scale, 5) trialling instruments, 6) analyzing the items by testing the
validity and reality of each statement item.
Based on the analysis of the respondents' demographic factors, the
emotional intelligence variable obtained a high mean value of 4.53, then for the
respondents' demographics, the self-compassion variable obtained a mean value of
3.29 with a high interpretation. So it can be said that self-compassion in class XII
students at SMAN 1 Seberida is high.
The results of this research obtained Rsquare (r2) = 0.042 or 4.2%, meaning
that the influence of the self-compassion variable (X) on emotional intelligence (Y)
is 4.2% while the remaining 95.8% is determined by other factors which are not
part of this research. Thus, it can be concluded that the influence of the selfcompassion
variable (X) on emotional intelligence (Y) has a low interpretation.
