Partisipasi Perempuan Pesisir Dalam Upaya Konservasi Mangrove Di Kelurahan Purnama Kecamatan Dumai Barat
This study aims to describe the representation of coastal women, identify their forms of participation in mangrove conservation efforts, and analyze the obstacles faced by coastal women in Purnama Village, West Dumai Subistrict. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with seven informants, including community leaders, coastal women, and representatives from the Riau Provincial Environmental Agency. The results show that coastal women are not only involved in domestic roles but also actively participate in economic, socio-cultural, and environmental activities. In mangrove conservation efforts, they are involved in all stages of participation according to Cohen & Uphoff’s theory, including decision-making, implementation, benefit utilization, and evaluation, although their involvement in the evaluation stage remains limited. The challenges they face include limited access to information, low self-confidence, and male dominance in formal conservation groups. This research highlights the importance of empowering and enhancing the role of coastal women in mangrove conservation to achieve sustainable ecosystems and improve community welfare.
