One of the major constraints in peat soils is the low availability of phosphorus (P). Phosphorus tends to be weakly bound to organic compounds, making it prone to fixation or immobilization into forms unavailable to plants. The application of different phosphorus sources and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) is crucial to enhance nutrient uptake and the growth of Liberica coffee seedlings in peat soils.
This study used a factorial design (two factors) arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was the source of phosphate consisting of 4 levels (SP-36, Rock Phosphate Peru, Rock Phosphate Crown and Guano) The second factor was arbuscular mycorrhiza consisting of 5 levels (0 g/polybag, 5 g/polybag, 10 g/polybag, 15 g/polybag and 20 g/polybag). Observation parameters consisted of soil pH, soil potential P, Root P content, Percentage of roots infected with Mycorrhiza, coffee seedling height, number of leaves, fresh weight of seedlings and dry weight of seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), then further tested using the Duncan Multiple New Range Test (DMNRT) 5%.
The application of Guano fertilizer significantly increased seedling height, number of leaves, dry weight, wet weight, root infection, Root P Level. The application of arbuscular mycorrhiza with a dose of 20 g/polybag significantly increased seedling height, number of leaves, dry weight, wet weight, root infection, Root P Level, soil pH. The interaction of guano and arbuscular mycorrhiza significantly affected root infection and soil pH but was not significantly different from Root P Level, seedling height, number of leaves, dry weight and wet weight of plants. Based on general observation parameter data, the type of P source and the best dose of arbuscular mycorrhiza administration in peat soil medium on Root P Level and coffee seedling growth were guano fertilizer and 20 g/polybag arbuscular mycorrhiza.
