Struktur Komunitas Nekton Pada Kawasan Perairan Mangrove Kampung Mengkapan, Kecamatan Sungai Apit, Kabupaten Siak Provinsi Riau
The mangrove ecosystem in Kampung Mengkapan, Sungai Apit District, Siak Regency, Riau Province, covers an area of approximately20–30 hectares and plays a crucial role in coastal protection, providing habitat for nekton, sequestering CO₂, and supporting fisheries activities. However, human activities such as land conversion, waste disposal, and settlement development have caused ecosystem degradation, leading to a decline in ecological functions and the stability of nekton communities. This studyaims to analyze the structure ofnekton communities in the mangrove ecosystem of Kampung Mengkapan and identify the impacts of human activities on this ecosystem. The study employed a survey method with direct observations to collect primary data on nekton species and abundance, as well as environmental parameters, and secondary data on the area's topography and previous research findings. Data analysis revealed the presence of 115 nekton individuals from8 families and 8 species. The diversityindex (Hꞌ) ranged from1.48 to 2.53, the evenness index (E) from 0.45 to 0.90, and the dominance index (C) from0.14 to 0.25, indicating abalanced nektoncommunitywith moderatediversity, highevenness, and low dominance. Environmental parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen were within ranges that support aquatic life. The findings highlight the significance of the Kampung Mengkapan mangrove ecosystem as a habitat for nekton with ecological and economic value. The study emphasizes the urgent need for conservation efforts and increased community awareness to protect this ecosystem from further degradation.
