Critical thinking skills are one of the 21st century skills that are very important for students to have. However, in reality in most secondary schools, the development of critical thinking skills still experiences various obstacles. Conventional learning that is still dominant has not been able to optimize students' critical thinking potential. This is largely influenced by learning methods that do not actively involve students, lack of stimulus for analytical thinking, and limited time and facilities. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on improving students' critical thinking skills. The method used is quantitative with experiments. Instruments in the form of questionnaires, teacher observation sheets, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the application of PBL in effective learning significantly improved students' critical thinking skills according to the results of the n-gain test. These findings confirm that PBL is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.
