This research is motivated by the phenomenon of code-mixing, which has
increasingly appeared in various communication media, including podcasts as a
form of entertainment and education popular among the public. This study aims to
describe the for
ms and functions of code-mixing found in the Suara Berkelas Podcast. The research
employed a descriptive qualitative method with observation and note-taking
techniques. The data, consisting of utterances containing code-mixing, were
analyzed through the stages of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion
drawing, based on the theories of Suwito, Chaer, and Roman Jakobson. The results
show that code-mixing appears at the levels of words, phrases, and clauses, with
English as the most dominant language. The functions of code-mixing identified
include referential, emotive, conative, phatic, poetic, metalingual, honorific,
emphatic, personal identity, social intimacy, directive, expressive, tone-shifting,
and humor. Overall, the use of code-mixing in the podcast does not only serve as a
medium of communication but also acts as a rhetorical strategy that enhances the
message’s appeal, strengthens audience engagement, and enriches the aesthetic
value of information delivery.
