Komunikasi lingkungan wahana lingkungan hidup indonesia (walhi) riau dalam kasus rempang eco city di kepulauan riau
WALHI is one of the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) engaged in the environment and advocacy that aims to oversee the current development by campaigning for solutions to create a sustainable environment and social justice in society. The purpose of this study, to analyze WALHI Riau in identifying situations and problems in environmental communication in the case of Rempang Eco City in the Riau Islands, to analyze WALHI Riau in identifying actors involved in environmental communication in the case of Rempang Eco City in the Riau Islands, and to analyze WALHI Riau in developing its environmental communication strategy in the case of Rempang Eco City in the Riau Islands.
This research uses qualitative research methods with descriptive methods to be able to explain how environmental communication is carried out by WALHI Riau in conveying information about the Rempang Eco City conflict. The informants of this research consisted of 6 people in accordance with the criteria determined using purposive techniques. Data collection techniques consisted of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data validity checking technique used source triangulation technique and method triangulation technique.
The results of this research show that the identification of the situation and problems carried out by WALHI Riau shows that the Rempang community rejects the development because it is not in favor of the environment and the community. Many negative environmental impacts will occur if the project continues, such as damaging marine ecosystems, reducing fishermen’s catches, clean water crisis, etc. the identification of involved actors by WALHI Riau shows that many parties are involved in the environmental issues of the Rempang Eco City project, namely the government, affected communities, community/environmental organizations, and journalistic media. WALHI Riau’s environmental communication strategy is to use various methods. Starting from using mass media on Instagram and Youtube, making press releases through the website, and direct interaction with affected communities by holding open meetings or discussions with affected communities.
