students’ perceptions on utilizing english social media (tiktok) for vocabulary enrichment
This study examines students' perceptions of TikTok as a platform for enriching English vocabulary. Conducted with second-semester students of the English Study Program at Universitas Riau, it employs a descriptive quantitative approach and analyzes data from 37 participants using a structured questionnaire. Six perception dimensions were evaluated: visual, auditory, selective, cognitive, motivational, and accessibility. The findings reveal a positive perception of TikTok as a vocabulary learning tool. Cognitive interpretation scored the highest, emphasizing the effectiveness of contextual vocabulary presentation, while visual and auditory features enhanced retention and engagement. Selective perception, however, received the lowest score, highlighting challenges in identifying relevant content. Motivational and accessibility dimensions indicate that TikTok inspires enthusiasm and provides flexible learning opportunities. In conclusion, TikTok is seen as an effective medium for vocabulary enrichment, aligning with modern learning preferences. Recommendations include improving content curation and exploring its broader use in language learning.
