a study on writing opinions ability of sman 5 students, pekanbaru
This study aims to evaluate the writing ability of tenth-grade students at SMAN 5 Pekanbaru in using expressions of opinion in English. Employing a descriptive quantitative design, the research involved 41 students who completed a test consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions and one essay task. The test focused on three key components: asking for, accepting, and declining opinions. The findings revealed that students generally demonstrated good proficiency, with an average score of 76.3 out of 100. While most students performed well in recognizing and using opinion expressions, challenges remained in organizing and expressing ideas in essay form. These results suggest the need for continued emphasis on writing instruction, particularly in structuring and developing written dialogue. The study provides valuable insights for educators seeking to improve students’ writing skills in expressing opinions.
