an analysis of code-switching used in the podcast of deddy corbuzier youtube channel
Code switching is a sociolinguistic phenomenon commonly found in bilingual communities, including Indonesia. Podcast as a form of digital communication media frequently feature code-switching, particularly when the speakers alternate between Indonesian and English. This research aims to analyze the types of code-switching used in the podcast on Deddy Corbuzier youtube channel. This research is a descriptive qualitative and used purposive sampling for collecting data with content analysis as the approach. The data were collected from three selected podcast videos of Deddy Corbuzier youtube channel and the data is analyzed based on Poplack (1980) theory, which categorizes code-switching into three types: tag switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching. The code switching data found in podcast videos of Deddy Corbuzier youtube channel 285 data consisting 59 tag switching, 27 inter-sentential switching and 199 intra-sentential switching. Intra-switching was found to be the most frequently code switching used. The findings indicate that code switching functions as a linguistic strategy to convey messages more effectively in bilingual contexts and reflects the speaker multilingual competence and linguistic flexibility in social media communication.
