the effectiveness of using player unknown battle ground mobile (pubgm) in enhancing vocabulary knowledge at smps it al husna
Vocabulary is considered the most important component of language. Many terms
must be acquired and used correctly in listening, speaking, and writing skills that
can help with the success of learning English. The purpose of this study is to
determine the extent to which the use of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile
(PUBG Mobile) enhances students’ vocabulary knowledge at SMPS IT AL
HUSNA. This study applies a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental
design, especially a pretest-posttest design of one group. The research was
conducted at SMPS IT Al Husna, an Islamic-based junior high school located on Jl.
Sekolah No. 10, Kubang Jaya Village, Siak Hulu, Kampar Regency. The research
was conducted in the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, precisely
between May and June 2025. The intervention is integrated into English learning
sessions, supported by the subject teacher. The population of this study consists of
all seventh grade students at SMPS IT Al Husna, with a total of 159 students. In
this study, the sample was Grade 7 Al Aqsho, which consisted of 33 students. This
class was chosen because it is accessible, representative, and supported by the
school for research participation. Although some students have previous experience
with PUBGM, while others do not, this variation is not considered an exclusion
factor. The entire class was treated as a group, according to the pretest-posttest
design of one group. In this study, the data collected can be classified into
quantitative data. The quantitative data obtained from this study were student exam
scores and student responses. Test scores are obtained through the test method using
the test question instrument, this instrument is measured using pre-test and posttest.
The data analysis technique used in this study is a quasi-experimental research,
analyzed with the help of the Social Science Statistics Package (SPSS). The results
of the study show that, English, which is an international language, allows all
groups to learn it. There are many ways to learn English, one of which is by playing
online games. Online games allow users to learn English indirectly, which is the
second language in Indonesia. By playing games, users will indirectly acquire new
vocabulary.
