Studi Konstruksi Dan Hasil Tangkapan Doton Yang Dioperasikan Di Perairan Danau Toba, Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara, Provinsi Sumatera Utara
Lake Toba is the largest lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world, with great potential in the fisheries sector. One of the traditional fishing gear widely used by fishermen in Lake Toba is a gill net known as Doton. This study aims to determine the construction of the Doton net and analyze the diversity of its catch. The research method was conducted through direct observation in the field of the construction of the Doton net and identification of the species of fish caught. The results showed that the Doton is rectangular in shape, equipped with floats at the top and weights at the bottom, and has a mesh size of 3.5 inches. The most dominant species caught were Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with 169 fish and red devil fish (Amphilophus labiatus) with 160 fish, with Nile tilapia having the highest catch weight of 57.5 kg. Meanwhile, carp (Cyprinus carpio) were only caught in limited numbers. These findings indicate that the Doton is an effective, environmentally friendly, and selective fishing gear, especially for catching pelagic or semi-pelagic fish such as Nile tilapia and red devil fish. This research is expected to serve as a source of information for the development of scientific knowledge related to the construction and effectiveness of traditional fishing gear in Lake Toba.
