This study describes the types and functions of euphemism and dysphemism in the
comments column of Tasyi Athasyia's Instagram account. This type of research is
descriptive qualitative. Based on the data analysis conducted, 47 euphemism and
dysphemism data were found. In 18 euphemism data, abbreviations, loanwords,
foreign terms, metaphors, periphrasis, and one word to replace another word were
found. In the function of euphemism, it was found that there were polite language
tools, keeping something secret, choice of words that are not offensive, disguise of
meaning, and religious terms. In 29 dysphemism data, there were taboo terms,
swear words, comparisons of humans with animals, terms of body parts, nicknames
for physical characteristics, nicknames for mental abnormalities, sexist, racist,
speciesist, classic, and ageist, insulting someone, expressions of dislike or
disagreement, and excessive expressions. In the function of dysphemism found,
hurting someone, showing dislike or disagreement, belittling, insulting someone,
obscene statements, comparing, and showing emotions.
