This study aims to determine the effect of the Jigsaw learning model on
students’ mastery of exposition text material in grade X at SMA Negeri 3 Bagan
Sinembah. The background of the study is students’ low understanding of exposition
texts. This is a quantitative experimental research using purposive sampling. Data
were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed
that in the control class using conventional learning, scores increased from a
pretest average of 52.53 to a posttest average of 66.02, an improvement of 13.49
points. Meanwhile, in the experimental class using the Jigsaw model, scores
significantly improved from a pretest average of 50.83 to a posttest average of
80.88, an increase of 30.05 points. The significance test result was 0.00 < 0.05,
indicating that the Jigsaw model is effective in enhancing students’ mastery of
exposition texts.
