students' perceptions of the duolingo application role in the speaking ability at english study program universitas riau batch 2023
This study aimed to explore students’ perceptions of the Duolingo application's role in speaking ability among students of the English Study Program at Universitas Riau Batch 2023. Using a descriptive quantitative method, data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 76 active Duolingo users. The questionnaire, adapted from Alkathiri (2019), focused on six indicators: perceived usefulness, ease of use, attitude toward use, speaking experience, accessibility, and classroom relevance. The findings indicated that students generally had positive perceptions of Duolingo in supporting their speaking activities, particularly in vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. Five out of six indicators received a positive perception, while one—related to classroom speaking—was rated as neutral. These results reflect how students view Duolingo as a helpful and accessible tool for learning English, particularly for independent speaking practice.
