ABSTRACT
This research aims to determine the effect of Partial and Simultaneous Inward
Migration and Investment on Unemployment on the Island of Sumatra. This
research uses quantitative methods. The type of data used in this research is
secondary data obtained from the Riau Province Central Statistics Agency and the
Pekanbaru City Population and Civil Registration Service. Through the panel data
regression analysis method with the Random Effect Model (REM) model approach.
The results obtained partially show that the Incoming Migration variable (X1) has
a negative and significant effect on Unemployment on Sumatra Island with a
coefficient value of -0.602355, indicating that every one thousand increase in the
Incoming Migration variable assuming other variables remain constant will reduce
the unemployment variable by 0.602 and the Investment variable (X2) has a
negative and significant effect on Unemployment on Sumatra Island with a
coefficient value of -0.343413 indicating that for every one trillion increase in the
investment variable assuming other variables remain constant it will reduces the
unemployment variable by 0.343. Simultaneously, the variables Inbound Migration
(X1) and Investment (X2) have a significant effect on unemployment on the island
of Sumatra. With an Adjusted R-squared value of 0.636547, this means that the
Incoming Migration (X1) and Investment (X2) variables influence unemployment
on Sumatra Island by 63% while the remaining 37% is obtained from variables
outside this research.
