Aktivitas sosial peer group di lingkungan fakultas ilmu sosial dan ilmu politik Universitas Riau
This study aims to explore the background behind the formation of peer groups, as well as the positive and negative impacts of their social activities within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Social activities among university students are closely tied to interpersonal interactions, in which individuals rely on one another to navigate academic life. These social interactions established through social contact and communication serve as the foundation for the creation of social groups, including peer groups. This research employs a qualitative approach using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that peer groups are formed through intense interaction, shared ways of thinking, and spontaneous encounters driven by common interests. Social activities within peer groups offer positive impacts such as support in academic, social, and emotional aspects. However, negative impacts also emerge, including consumptive behavior and poor time management. Nevertheless, the continuity of peer groups remains strong due to shared goals, values, and norms, as well as the maintenance of group dynamics through dominant roles, openness, and the unique characteristics of each group.
