Traditional games are a cultural heritage that reflect the values of a region's identity. However, amidst technological developments and changes in people's lifestyles, the existence of traditional games is starting to decline. One of the typical games that is still preserved in Kuantan Singingi Regency is Sepak Rago Tinggi. This study aims to determine the tourism communication strategy implemented by the Kuantan Singingi Regency Culture and Tourism Office in promoting the traditional game of Sepak Rago Tinggi. With the changing times and the influence of outside cultures, the existence of this game is starting to be marginalized. Therefore, an appropriate communication strategy is needed to make this traditional game more widely known and popular again, especially among the younger generation and tourists.
This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. This research is based on Phillip Lesly's communication planning model, which includes six stages: situation analysis and initial research, local wisdom-based communication policies, strategic program planning, communication activity implementation, community response and feedback, and strategy effectiveness evaluation. Through this communication planning model, the research is expected to determine how the agency designs and implements communication strategies oriented towards cultural preservation while simultaneously developing the tourism sector.
The research results show that the communication strategy implemented includes planning messages that emphasize local cultural values, utilizing social media as a means of publication, organizing regional festivals, and collaborating with indigenous communities. This strategy is considered effective in raising public awareness of the importance of preserving the traditional game of Sepak Rago Tinggi, although there are still obstacles such as limited budget and low interest from the younger generation. With the implementation of a sustainable communication strategy, Sepak Rago Tinggi has the potential to become a leading tourist attraction and a symbol of the cultural identity of Kuantan Singingi Regency
