Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Poe2we Untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Kognitif Peserta Didik Kelas Viii Pada Materi Cahaya Dan Alat Optik Di Smp Negeri 20 Pekanbaru
A developed nation is one with high-quality education, as education plays a key role in developing quality human resources. Therefore, education is fundamental and a crucial factor that every individual in a country should have. However, the current national education system faces challenges in the form of low student learning outcomes in developing 21st-century skills. Optimal student learning outcomes are achieved through quality instruction. Low student learning outcomes and the difficulty in understanding learning, influenced by a less varied learning environment and a lack of direct application in daily life, serve as a reference for teachers in seeking ways to improve student learning outcomes. The POE2WE learning model is considered to provide significant opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in learning activities, thereby maximizing learning outcomes and enhancing multiliteracy skills, namely reading, writing, speaking, and mastery of information and communication media.
The purpose of this study is to describe the cognitive learning outcomes of junior high school students by applying the Prediction, Observation, Explanation, Elaboration, Write, Evaluation (POE2WE) learning model on the material of light and optical devices and to determine the differences in cognitive learning outcomes of junior high school students between learning by applying the POE2WE learning model on the material of light and optical devices with conventional learning on the material of light and optical devices. The expected benefits of this study are for teachers, this study is expected to be a consideration in choosing a learning model that can improve student learning outcomes. For students, this study is expected to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes.
This research was conducted at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. This study used a quasi-experimental research type with a posttest-only control group design. The research subjects were all eighth-grade students. The sample in this study were students from the class given treatment with learning implementing the POE2WE learning model or the experimental group, namely class VIII 2, totaling 35 students and the control group given conventional learning, namely class VIII 3, totaling 35 students. After completing the treatment, both classes took a cognitive learning outcome test in the form of a cognitive learning outcome posttest consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions, where each
question used the cognitive domains from C1-C6. The results obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis.
The descriptive results of the study indicate that the experimental class achieved a higher average cognitive ability score than the control class. Furthermore, inferential analysis using a t-test yielded a significance value of 0.05. This indicates a difference in students' cognitive abilities between the experimental class implementing the POE2WE learning model and the control class implementing conventional learning.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the POE2WE learning model can improve students' cognitive learning outcomes, as evidenced by the higher cognitive abilities of students in the POE2WE learning model compared to those in the conventional learning class. This is evident in the average cognitive ability based on the post-test, where the experimental class was in the very high category and the control class was in the high category.
