Status Kesuburan Perairan Danau Pinang Luar Di Desa Buluh Cina Kecamatan Siak Hulu Berdasarkan Jenis Perifiton
Pinang Luar Lake is surrounded by oil palm plantations and the remains of fertilizer applied in the plantation may be flown to the lake during rainy season and thus increasing the trophic state. A study aims to determine trophic state based on the type of periphyton was conducted in June–July 2024. Three observation stations were determined, namely around the inlet, in the middle, and at the end of the lake. Substrate used for periphyton attach was made from 8x3 cm of thin clear plastic plates. In each site, 2 sets of plastic plate row were placed. A set of plastic row was made by arranging 15 plastic plates vertically using wire. The plastic rows were then tied to 2 bamboo pools, in 20 cm and 120 cm depth. Sampling was carried out three times, once/ week. In each weeks 5 plates were taken and the periphyton was obtained by scraping the outer surface of the plate using a soft brush. The periphyton obtained were then fixed using1% lugol and then were identified and counted. The water quality parameters measured were periphyton types and abundance, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, brightness, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate. Results shown that there were 20 types of periphyton and they were consisted of 4 classes: Bacillariophyceae (9 species), Chlorophyceae (8 species), Cyanophyceae (1 species), and Euglenophyceae (2 species). The most common species found was Navicula sp. Based on the types of periphyton found, the trophic state of the lake was classified as mesotrophic. Water quality parameters measured were brightness 66.67–75.67 cm, temperature 29–30 °C, pH 5–5.33, dissolved oxygen 3.19–6.12 mg/L, free carbon dioxide 3.47–12.69 mg/L, nitrate 0.11–0.36 mg/L, and phosphate 0.08–0.15 mg/L. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the water of the lake was mesotrophic and the water quality were suitable to support the life of periphyton.
