Pola komunikasi guru bimbingan konseling dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar persiapan masuk perguruan tinggi (studi pada pelajar kelas xii sman 8 Pekanbaru)
Communication patterns are a form of relationship or interaction in the process of conveying and receiving messages between communicators and communicants so that the messages can be understood properly. In reality, there are still students who lack motivation to learn, experience confusion in determining their major, and have low self-confidence in facing competition to enter university. Therefore, appropriate communication patterns from guidance counsellors are needed so that students can develop learning motivation and make informed academic decisions. This study aims to analyse the communication patterns of guidance counsellors at SMAN 8 Pekanbaru in increasing the learning motivation of Year 12 students in preparation for entering university.
This study uses Joseph A. Devito's communication pattern theory, which classifies communication patterns into interpersonal communication, small group communication, large group communication, and mass communication. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research location is SMAN 8 Pekanbaru. The research subjects consist of four guidance counsellors and six Year
12 students. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out through reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested using source triangulation techniques.
The results showed that guidance counsellors played a role as providers of information about lectures, career guidance, and implementers of individual and group counselling services. The communication patterns used included interpersonal communication through individual counselling and small group communication through group counselling and classical guidance. The communication methods used included lectures, dialogue or brainstorming, and motivation. Overall, the communication patterns of guidance counselling teachers in increasing motivation to study in preparation for entering university were effective.
