Interaksi guru dan siswa dalam pembelajaran berbahasa melayu dialek Kampar di smp negeri 1 Kuok, kabupaten Kampar, Riau
Although the official language of instruction in education, as stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 63 of 2019, is Indonesian, interactions between teachers and students during the learning process may occur in the Kampar dialect of Riau Malay, particularly when teachers explain lesson content and students respond. As members of the Kampar community, both teachers and students naturally use this local dialect in classroom settings. This study aims to examine the nature of teacher–student interaction in the learning process when the Kampar dialect of Riau Malay is used, and to explore the advantages and disadvantages of incorporating this dialect in social interactions during instruction at SMP Negeri 1 Kuok. The research is grounded in symbolic interactionism and sociolinguistic theory. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of the Kampar dialect contributes to a relaxed and supportive learning atmosphere, enhances students’ comprehension, and increases their motivation to learn. Although no formal school policy regulates its use, the local language supports instructional effectiveness and reinforces the cultural identity of both teachers and students. The benefits of using the Kampar dialect include greater student self-confidence and the development of closer teacher–student relationships. However, challenges include a limited range of equivalent vocabulary in Indonesian—making it difficult to explain certain concepts—regional accents influencing students’ Indonesian pronunciation, and difficulty in distinguishing between standard and non-standard Indonesian. To address these challenges—particularly given that some students struggle with either Indonesian or the local dialect—teachers strategically alternate between Indonesian and the Kampar dialect during instruction.
