Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Dimethyl Acetamide (Dmac) Proses Amidasi Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Asam Asetat (T-102)
ABSTRACT
Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is a solvent used in polymer dissolution, especially in the fiber industry. DMAc being a highly effective and versatile solvent in the chemical industry, it is also often used as an intermediate material in chemical synthesis processes, then its role in polymer production shows that DMAc is an important basic material in the manufacture of industrial end products. The use of dimethylacetamide as a solvent has become more widespread since environmental classifications designated dimethyl formamide as a stronger carcinogenic substance, so many industries have switched to DMAc as a safer alternative. DMAc production in Indonesia is a great opportunity, because currently the fulfillment of DMAc needs in Indonesia is still fully dependent on imports. The DMAc plant is planned to be established with a production capacity of 70,000 tons/year in Purwakarta District, Cilegon City, Banten Province in 2028.
The dimethylacetamide production process at the DaiNusa Chemical plant uses US Du Pont process technology using dimethylamine and acetic acid as raw materials. The DMAc production process consists of two main stages, namely the amidation reaction using Fe₃O₄ catalyst in a bubble column reactor (R-101), and the product separation-purification stage through two multistage distillation towers (T-101) and (T-102). The main product in the form of DMAc with a purity of 98% is taken from the bottom of T-101, while acetic acid is separated from the mixture through T-102 and recycled again. To support the operational sustainability of this plant, a utility system is used which consists of a steam supply unit in the form of a natural gas/LNG-fueled water tube boiler, a water supply unit from the Cidanau River, and an electricity supply unit. The equipment at this plant is equipped with safety instruments and process control instruments in the form of sensors, indicators, controllers, recorders, and plant safety devices such as alarms.
DaiNusa Chemical dimethylacetamide plant has a Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) of Rp2,888,350,440,739, a Working Capital Investment (WCI) of Rp509,708,901,307, Total Capital Investment (TCI) of Rp3,398,059,342,046, and Total Production Cost (TPC) of Rp2,254,478,401,358. From the profitability analysis, the Net Present Value (NPV) is Rp5,590,892,011,804 with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.43%. The Break-Even Point (BEP) occurs at a production capacity of 54.49%, and the Payback Period (PBP) is 2.82 years. The profitability analysis results indicate that the DMAc factory is viable to establish and represents a profitable investment.
