Konflik sosial antara pemuda di desa Tanah Merah kecamatan Tanah Merah kabupaten Indragiri Hilir
This study examines the phenomenon of social conflict among youths in Tanah Merah Village, Indragiri Hilir Regency, which is often triggered by trivial matters such as teasing, differences of opinion, and the habit of consuming alcohol. These factors stimulate unstable emotions and frequently escalate into physical violence, especially due to strong group solidarity and the urge to defend peers. This research employs a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews conducted with several informants, including youths, the Village Head, the Police Public Relations officer, and community leaders. The findings reveal that the weakness of social control functions, both formal through village authorities and informal through families and the community, exacerbates the intensity of conflicts. Furthermore, the lack of healthy communication between youth groups creates misunderstandings that increase the potential for disputes. Such conflicts not only cause physical and psychological harm but also threaten social stability within the village. From the perspective of Lewis A. Coser’s conflict theory, these conflicts reflect latent social tensions that remain unresolved and, if neglected, may hinder the achievement of social harmony. Therefore, the necessary resolutions include character development programs for youths, improved cross- group communication, and the strengthening of community leaders’ roles in instilling social and moral values. These efforts are expected to prevent similar conflicts in the future and to foster a more peaceful, conducive, and harmonious village environment.
