penerapan pendekatan saintifik berbantukan games education baamboozle terhadap peningkatan motivasi dan sikap siswa terhadap sains pada siswa smpn 38 pekanbaru
Natural Science (IPA) learning should provide opportunities for students
to actively construct knowledge through scientific processes such as observing,
questioning, experimenting, reasoning, and communicating. However, in practice,
science learning in schools—including at SMPN 38 Pekanbaru—still tends to be
conventional and teacher-centered, which results in students becoming passive
and less motivated. As a result, science is often perceived as a difficult and boring
subject. This condition highlights the need for innovative and enjoyable learning
strategies that can stimulate students’ interest and foster positive attitudes toward
science. One such alternative is the use of educational game-based learning
media, such as Baamboozle, integrated into a scientific approach.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of implementing a
scientific approach assisted by Games Education Baamboozle in enhancing
students’ learning motivation and attitudes toward science.
The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the
Margaret Riel model, which includes four stages: planning, acting, observing,
and reflecting. The research subjects were 30 seventh-grade students at SMPN 38
Pekanbaru. Data were collected through observation of student activities,
learning motivation questionnaires, and science attitude questionnaires. The data
were then analyzed quantitatively based on averages, percentages, and
differences between cycles.
The results of the study show a significant improvement in all aspects after
implementing the scientific approach supported by Baamboozle. In the learning
motivation questionnaire, the average score in Cycle I was 2.50 (categorized as
low), which increased to 3.48 (high category) in Cycle II—an increase of +0.98
points. Similarly, students' attitudes toward science improved from 2.57 (low) in
Cycle I to 3.43 (high) in Cycle II, with a gain of +0.86 points. This improvement
was consistent across all indicators of both motivation and attitude, particularly
in the aspects of confidence and career interest.
Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of a
scientific approach assisted by Games Education Baamboozle is effective in
enhancing students’ learning activities, motivation, and attitudes toward science.
Therefore, Baamboozle is considered a suitable alternative learning media to
support the implementation of the scientific approach in science education at the
junior high school level.
