The development of 21st-century science and technology demands that students possess science communication skills, especially in science learning. Based on observations and analysis conducted by the researcher at SMP Negeri 1 Kabun, it was found that students' science communication skills were categorized as lacking, with a score of 45%. This was indicated by various difficulties experienced by students, such as challenges in representing data in tables, writing laboratory reports, finding information using electronic databases, and confusion during presentations. Additionally, the researcher also observed that students seemed less enthusiastic about answering the teacher's questions, appeared to daydream, engaged in unrelated activities, and chatted while the teacher was explaining the lesson. After analysis, it was found that the students' learning motivation was in the fairly high category at 68%. Starting from these issues, the researcher conducted classroom action research by implementing an inquiry-based learning model assisted by HTML5 Package (H5P) in static and dynamic electricity lessons as a solution to improve students' science communication skills and learning motivation.
This research aims to describe the validity of the HTML5 Packet (H5P) learning media based on inquiry-based learning, and to describe the improvement in science communication skills and learning motivation of class IX-3 students at SMP Negeri 1 Kabun by implementing the inquiry-based learning model assisted by H5P in the topics of static and dynamic electricity. The type of research applied is classroom action research (CAR) with four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection.
The subjects of this research were the students of class IX-3 at SMP Negeri 1 Kabun, Kabun, Rokan Hulu, Riau. The class consists of 25 students. The dependent variables in this study were science communication skills and student learning motivation, while the independent variable was the inquiry-based learning model assisted by H5P The learning tools that were designed were validated by three expert validators before being used. Data collection methods included validation sheets for the learning tools, observation sheets for teacher and student activities, observation sheets for science communication skills, and questionnaires for student learning motivation.
The research results show that the learning tools used in the classroom action research were validated as valid by the three validators. The validation scores were 3.00 for the science communication skills observation sheet,3.67 for the lesson plan cycle I, 3.20 for the student worksheet cycle I, 3.60 for the H5P media cycle I, 3.56 for the lesson plan cycle II, 3.42 for the student worksheet cycle II, and 3.86 for the H5P media cycle II. Additionally, data analysis also showed improvements in science communication skills and student learning motivation. Science communication skills increased from 44% in the pre-cycle to 65% in cycle I, and further increased to 84% in cycle II. Learning motivation increased from 65% in the pre-cycle to 78% in cycle I, and then to 82% in cycle II. Teacher activity also improved, rising from 81% in cycle I
to 90% in cycle II. Student activity also increased from 78% in cycle I to 84% in cycle II.
The conclusion in this research is that the validated learning tools used in the implementation of the inquiry-based learning model assisted by H5P were found valid in all aspects assessed. The application of the inquiry-based learning model assisted by H5P successfully improved the science communication skills and learning motivation of class IX-3 students at SMP Negeri 1 Kabun in both cycle I and cycle II. H5P media contains road map content that is used to create an inquiry learning guide so that it makes it easier for teacher to follow it without missing a single step. In addition, there are alsi various other types of content that teacher can create to support learning. Therefore, H5P media in this inquiry learning can be enchane teacher creativity.
