This study aims to identify misconceptions about reaction rate material
among 11th grade students at SMA Negeri 15 Pekanbaru. This study uses
descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach. The sample in this study
consisted of 161 twelfth-grade students at SMA Negeri 15 Pekanbaru who had
studied reaction rate material. Data collection techniques used a five-level
diagnostic test instrument consisting of 16 questions and interviews using
purposive sampling techniques. Based on the results of the study, it was found that
students' misconceptions about reaction rate material in grade XI at SMA Negeri
15 Pekanbaru as a whole had a percentage of 18.56% in the low category.
Students' misconceptions about the concept of understanding and measuring
reaction rates had an average misconception of 18.63%. the concept of collision
theory had an average misconception of 13.46%, the concept of factors affecting
reaction rate had an average misconception of 13.91%, and the concept of
reaction rate law and reaction rate equation had an average misconception of
26.21%. The identified sources of misconceptions were books (14.60%), teachers
(7.13%), personal thoughts (40.78%), friends (32.46%), and the internet (5.02%).
