Motivasi orang tua pada pendidikan anak ke perguruan tinggi (Studi pada nelayan di kepenghuluan parit aman ecamatan Bangko Kabupaten Rokan Hilir)
The motivation of parents who work as fishermen usually comes from a strong desire within them to provide a good education for their children. Therefore, parents try to provide guidance, direction, and encouragement so that their children can study well and complete their education. The purpose of this study is to determine how parents' motivation in encouraging their children to continue their education to college and how the fulfillment of Maslow's hierarchy of needs affects parents' motivation in supporting their children's education to college. This study uses the motivational theory approach from Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The research subjects consisted of seven informants selected using purposive sampling, consisting of six main informants who were fishermen and met the predetermined criteria, as well as one key informant, namely the child of a fisherman who was continuing their higher education. This study was field research using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of this study explain that parental motivation largely stems from encouragement, namely a strong desire to ensure their children's future success through education. Parents actively provide guidance, direction, and support despite facing various socioeconomic obstacles, such as limited funds and the demands of working as fishermen. Social support from family and the surrounding environment also strengthens children's motivation to pursue higher education.
